Chinese immigrants and immigrant communities in the United States are increasingly involved in philanthropy, and nonprofits are having a growing impact on this population. Â鶹AV Sociology Professor Victor Shaw reviews these activities, and explores the major social forces behind Chinese philanthropy. Trends in individual versus organizational, corporate versus non-corporate, and specific versus general giving also are explored. And the impact of philanthropy and nonprofits serving Chinese immigrants is examined in regards to their assimilation to the mainstream society, self-sufficiency in civil affairs, and overall integration in the American economy. The free lecture, co-sponsored by the Â鶹AV China Institute and Southern California Grantmakers, will be presented by Â鶹AV’s Valley Nonprofit Resources. Students, faculty, and Valley nonprofit leaders all are encouraged to attend.
