Course/materials fee: $50
Throughout this hands-on course, students will gain foundational skills in fashion design. They will learn how to sketch their design concepts, trace patterns, and construct garments using a variety of accessible methods such as hand stitching, gluing, and fabric manipulation. Working with old clothes and fabric pieces, students will explore how different textures, weights, and fibers affect the way a garment behaves and fits.
They will also be introduced to the history of fashion and how it has evolved through time, considering cultural, environmental, and psychological influences. By decorating and embellishing their pieces with trims, beads, ribbons, and other materials, students will experience the joy of transforming ideas into reality. In doing so, they’ll develop a greater sense of confidence, experimentation, and respect for the artistic potential in everyday objects.
