Late Schedule Change Deadlines

Precautions for Reducing Units - IMPORTANT

Reducing the number of enrolled units may affect your eligibility for financial aid, campus housing, international student status and more.

Before dropping, please review Information Regarding Potential Impact of Change in Academic Schedule and contact the listed offices for guidance.

Update for Graduate Students

  • Beginning fall 2025, Graduate students working toward a master’s, doctorate, credential or certificate have until the end of Week 3 —until Friday, Sept. 12, 2025 — to drop one or more classes online. After Sept. 12, 2025, approval is required for withdrawals, including medical, using the “Late Change in Academic Schedule” form at Graduate Evaluations: Forms.
  • Undergraduate students working toward a first or second bachelor’s degree continue to have until the end of Week 4 — Sunday, Sept. 21 — to drop classes online, as explained below. No dates have changed.

Friday, Sept. 12: Last day to drop and be eligible for a partial refund. Last day for graduate students to drop online.

Sunday, Sept. 21: Last day for undergraduate students to drop online using self-serve registration.

Medical Withdrawal

Weeks 1 to 4

Undergraduate students:
Contact Undergraduate Studies by Sept.21 for partial or complete medical withdrawals. Find forms at Medical Withdrawals.1, 4, 5

Graduate students:
Apply for any kind of medical withdrawal using the “Late Change in Academic Schedule” form available at Graduate Evaluations: Forms.1, 4

All students:
So that the medical withdrawal can be recorded, do NOT drop courses online.1, 4

Undergraduate students:
Follow the instructions on the "Late and Retroactive Change in Schedule for Undergraduate and Second Bachelor's Students" and the "Medical Withdrawal Student Consent" forms, available at Student Forms.1, 4

Graduate students:

  1. IMPORTANT! Precautions for Reducing Units: Reducing the number of enrolled units may affect your eligibility for Campus Housing, Financial Aid, International Student Status, and more. A Financial Aid student who reduces the number of units or completely withdraws (including medical withdrawal) may be subject to award reduction, cancellation or REPAYMENT. In addition, reducing units or withdrawing from courses may impact Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). Before changing your schedule, review Information Regarding Potential Impact of Change in Academic Schedule and contact the appropriate office(s) for guidance.
  2. Students enrolled in accelerated and/or online courses must adhere to the same deadlines and procedures as those outlined in this table.
  3. If adding units, check your student financial account in the Âé¶¹AV Portal for a possible fee increase, including nonresident tuition if applicable, and the payment due date. If units increase to 6.1 or more, additional fees will be charged. Refer to tuition and other fees and payment due date. Note: Fall 2025 units added after Sept. 21 will not increase a student’s financial aid award; refer to What Affects My Aid: Enrollment Requirements.
  4. For refund information including how to set up eRefund, refer to Student Finance/University Cash Services.
  5. To request that a medical withdrawal in Weeks 1 through 4 be indicated on your Âé¶¹AV record, also complete the Medical Withdrawal Verification in Weeks 1 through 4 for Undergraduate and Second Bachelor’s Students (PDF).
