This cohort is designed to empower students from African descent during their transition to Â鶹AV. Through interactive discussions, learner-centered activities, and campus partner visits, transfer students will explore their personal strengths, interests, and sense of belonging within the Â鶹AV community. Students will also take part in a comprehensive plan to prepare for post-graduation. Moreover, they will gain essential skills in seeking help when needed, setting realistic goals, and accessing information resources necessary for lifelong learning. With a focus on preparing individual health and well-being, students will also engage with issues that impact the Black community currently and in Â鶹AV’s history. While appreciating the representation of the African diaspora, students will gain a deeper understanding of their own identities and the collective experiences of Black students on campus. This course embodies the intersection of personal growth, academic excellence, and cultural awareness, preparing students to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

This section is for returning juniors and seniors (these students do not need to have been transfer students). Rather than having conversations about the differences between community college and Â鶹AV (as we do in the standard U301 sections), we discuss experiences leaving and taking the step to come back. Students join a community of other students who are coming back and participate in many interactive classroom activities. The class serves as an extended welcome and a celebration of the decision to come back. It also serves as an extended re-orientation to Â鶹AV to ensure students are aware of all of the resources and services available to them. And as with the standard U301 sections, they are guided as they create a comprehensive action plan for graduation and post-graduation.
