Matador Move In & Move Out
Each spring during Move Out, Â鶹AV students can donate unwanted but usable items—like clothing, dorm supplies, small appliances, and non-perishable food—instead of sending them to the landfill. Over the summer, these items are sorted and stored. Then, at the start of the fall semester, they’re given back to students for free during Move In. This program keeps resources in circulation, reduces waste, and supports a culture of sharing and sustainability on campus.

Â鶹AV the Event:Ìý
Matador Move Out Donation Drive is a pioneering initiative at California State University, Northridge (Â鶹AV), where Student Housing and the Sustainability DepartmentÌýwillÌýunite toÌýestablishÌýa profound connection between sustainability and addressing basic needs within our community.Ìý
Our Mission:Ìý
Our primary goal is to reduce waste and promote sustainability by intercepting materials typically discarded in landfills during student move-out periods. By collecting gently used clothing, non-perishable food items, and reusable mini appliances, we aim to divert these resources from ending up in landfills and instead redistribute them to those in need within our campus community and local organizations.Ìý
How it Works:Ìý
During the designated donation period, residents of Â鶹AV Housing Residential Halls are encouraged to donate their unwanted but still usable items such as clothing, canned goods, and mini appliances.ÌýDonation collection stations will be set up in residential halls for easy access and convenience.Ìý
Impact:Ìý
Through the Matador Move Out Donation Drive, we strive to make a meaningful impact in several ways:Ìý
Sustainability: By diverting materials from landfills, we contribute to the university's sustainability goals and reduce our environmental footprint.Ìý
CommunityÌýSupport:ÌýDonated items will be redistributed to various campus food pantries, clubs, and local organizations, providing essential resources to those in need.Ìý
Promoting Reuse: ReusableÌýclothing &Ìýmini appliancesÌýand recovered foodÌýcollected during the drive will find newÌýhomesÌýand uses withinÌýthe campus andÌýlocal organizations, further promoting sustainability and resourcefulness.Ìý
Get Involved:Ìý
We invite all Â鶹AV students, staff,ÌýfacultyÌýand communityÌýmembers toÌýparticipateÌýin this groundbreaking event. Whether you donate items, volunteer your time, or simply spread the word, your involvement makes a difference.Ìý
