State Grants
The California Student Aid Commission determines the eligibility criteria for state grants. See if you qualify, but be aware that funding for any state grant program is dependent on the state of California.

The Cal Grant A and B programs are administered by the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC), and they are only available to California residents. Cal Grants provide long-term assistance toward earning a first undergraduate degree. Cal Grant A pays tuition fees, while Cal Grant B pays tuition fees and also provides an additional yearly allowance for books and other expenses. You must maintain half-time enrollment to be eligible. Cal Grant applicants and recipients may make changes to their school of choice and view important information about their award at.
Keep in mind these Cal Grant guidelines:
- Students must file a FAFSA or California Dream Applicationand submit their GPA verification by March 2. Theon the CSAC website contains all the instructions.
- Students must maintain at least half-time enrollment to be eligible.
- Newly admitted Cal State Northridge students currently attending high school must have their GPA verification sent by their high schools.
- New and continuing Northridge students with fewer than 24 college units who are not currently receiving a Cal Grant must submit a GPA verification form from their previous college attended (if 24 units have been earned) or from their high school.
- Northridge will send the GPA verification by the end of February for those students who have at least 24 college units, are not currently receiving a Cal Grant, have a valid FAFSA or California Dream Application on file for the current school year, and are currently enrolled at Northridge.
- Current Cal Grant recipients do not need to submit a GPA verification form.
- New and continuing Cal Grant recipients must meet the CSAC's designated financial need and income ceiling requirements to maintain Cal Grant eligibility.
- Cal Grant awards will be prorated based on enrollment status. You must be enrolled full time to qualify for the maximum eligibility of your Cal Grant.

If you are or were in foster care and demonstrate financial need, you may qualify for a California Chafee Grant.
Keep in mind these California Chafee Grant guidelines:
- The Chafee Grant provides up to $5,000 a year for college.
- You are required to file a Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) and a.
- Your caseworker or independent living program coordinator can help you complete the FAFSA and Chafee applications.
- You must stay in school to keep your Chafee Grant, and you may lose your grant if you enroll less than half time or receive low grades.
- Chafee applicants and recipients may make changes to their school of choice and view important information about the Chafee award at.

The California National Guard Education Assistance Award Program (CNG EAAP) is administered by the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC). It is designed to assist active members of the California National Guard, the State Military Reserve or the Naval Militia with education-related expenses. To find out if you qualify, visit the.
Keep in mind these CNG EAAP guidelines:
- You must have completed theonline prior to June 1.
- You cannot receive the CNG EAAP Grant and the Cal Grant during the same award period.
- If you want to renew your grants, you must submit theandby June 1. The Statement of Understanding must be printed and hand delivered to your commanding officer for signature.
- Those awarded a CNG EAAP Grant will be contacted via email by Cal State Northridge when checks are ready for pickup.
The Middle Class Scholarship (MCS)* provides a scholarship for new and continuing undergraduate and credential students with family incomes and assets up to $201,000 attending a CSU or UC.
Additionally, the student must:
- Be a California resident or eligible AB 540 student
- File a FAFSA or California Dream Application by the March 2 deadline
- Be enrolled at least half-time
- Be meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress standards
- Meet certain income/assets and other financial aid standards
- Not be in default on a student loan
- Must not be incarcerated
Any federal, state, or institutionally administered student financial aid grants or fee sponsorships/waivers received by an eligible student may impact the amount of award received.
Students that are determined to be eligible to receive an MCS award will be notified by the. Students may log in to their(WGS) account to review their Middle Class Scholarship California Aid Report (MCSCAR). The MCSCAR does not have to be submitted to 鶹AV.
When will funds be available?
MCS is awarded on an ongoing basis. The Financial Aid & Scholarship Department will send you an award notice when the scholarship has been awarded. What affects the MCS award amount?
There are several factors that can impact the MCS award amount. Your MCS can be affected by:
- Change in Enrollment-Withdrawal from the University,
- Receiving additional federal, state or institutional financial aid,
- Changes to income after you have been awarded

* Middle Class Scholarship 2.0
The state of California has modified the Middle Class Scholarship. While the name stays the same, the program has changed. The California Student Aid Commission uses data from 鶹AV, the FAFSA, or CADAA to make awards. Any federal, state, institutional, or private grants and scholarships received will affect the amount awarded in the Middle Class Scholarship.
TheDREAM Service Incentive Grant (DSIG)is a program designed to encourage California Dream Act applicants to volunteer with qualifying organizations. Students who meet the eligibility criteria can earn up to $4,500 per academic year ($2,250 per semester) through volunteer work, while gaining valuable experience and contributing to the community.

Eligibility Requirements
- California Dream Act Applicants:You must have completed and submitted the California Dream Act Application (CADAA) for the 2024-2025 academic year.
- Cal Grant Eligibility:You must be an active recipient of a Cal Grant A or Cal Grant B award, with Cal Grant A recipients meeting Cal Grant B eligibility.
- Financial Need: You must demonstrate enough financial need, as determined by the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) or the institution.
- Enrollment:You must be enrolled part-time (at least 6 units for undergraduate and Teacher Credential Program students) at California State University, Northridge (鶹AV).
- Community Service:You must complete 150-300 volunteer service hours with a qualifying service organization.
How to Apply
- Complete the CADAA: Ensure you have submitted your California Dream Act Application for the 2024-2025 academic year.
- Submit your DSIG Application: To apply for the DSIG, visit theand complete the required Grant Application.
- Volunteer with a Qualifying Organization: Once approved, you can begin volunteering with a registered service organization.
- Track Volunteer Hours: Ensure that you log and report your volunteer hours through the DSIG system.
- Submit Payment Request Form:After completing your volunteer hours, submit a Payment Request Form to receive your grant. This form can be found on the 鶹AV DSIG Payment Request Portal.
What is a Qualifying Service Organization?
A qualifying service organization is a nonprofit or public entity that meets specific registration criteria and is registered with the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC). This includes:
- Nonprofits as defined under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code
- Federal, state, or local government entities
- Schools listed on the Cal Grant Eligible Schools list, which includes California State University, Northridge (鶹AV).
To participate, the organization must meet the following requirements:
- The organization must have been established for a minimum of two years before the first date on which a participating student begins performing service hours to qualify for the program.
- The community or volunteer service performed by the participating student must not involve advocacy of a political, social, or religious nature.
- The community or volunteer service must be related to the student's field of study or in furtherance of community service or a community need.

The Golden State Teacher Grant (GSTG) Program awards up to $20,000 to students currently enrolled in a professional preparation program approved by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) and working towards earning their preliminary teaching or pupil personnel services credential. What happens after I submit my application?
After you submit your GSTG application, you will receive a confirmation email from the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC). The Financial Aid & Scholarship Department will then verify your eligibility and determine your award amount. If you are eligible for the grant, you will be asked to sign a Service Agreement, which outlines the program requirements, service commitment, and repayment obligations.
Once the Service Agreement is signed, the Financial Aid & Scholarship Department will confirm your enrollment and ensure there is room for the award before requesting the funds from CSAC.
When will funds be available?
After the Service Agreement is signed, the Financial Aid & Scholarship Department will request the funds from CSAC via WebGrants, typically after the census date for each term. Once the funds are available, 鶹AV will receive the electronic transfer of funds (EFT) within one week of the request.
After the funds are received, your Financial Aid package will be updated, and the funds will be disbursed within 2-3 weeks. You will receive a Financial Aid Revision notification once the award has been posted to your account.
